At Bourne Hill Care, our approach to care is deeply person-centred, recognising that care provision is, above all, a people-focused service. However, this commitment to compassionate, individualised care is strongly underpinned by rigorous compliance standards. Compliance is, in fact, the backbone of our care approach, ensuring both safety and quality in everything we do
Effective Date: 1st July 2024
Our sector operates within a multi-level regulatory framework, spanning from Human Rights standards to CQC compliance to Home Office standards. If we ever experience a near-miss or incident that suggests room for improvement in compliance, we address it immediately—whether through policy reviews, targeted training, or scheduling a quality monitoring visit. This proactive approach ensures that our commitment to excellence is constantly reinforced.
Our key policies, such as Safeguarding Adults Policy and Procedure and Raising Concerns, Freedom to Speak, Whistleblowing Policy and Procedure, are introduced during our welcoming meeting and included in our welcome pack. These policies are tailored to be accessible, with summaries designed to meet the diverse communication needs of our clients.
For the past 12 years, we have partnered with a well-established and respected compliance consultancy known for their extensive experience in auditing and managing care services. They were carefully chosen for their expertise in supporting innovative approaches to neurodivergent well-being, and their support to Bourne Hill Care remains independent and heavily focused on evidencing. This relationship allows us to stay current with policy requirements and updates, ensuring compliance is seamlessly integrated into our daily practice.
As part of our dedication to compliance, Bourne Hill Care has been a proud member of QCS for over a decade. Our policies are customised to align with both our specific services and the unique layout of our building. For example, our Storage for Medication Policy and Procedure is carefully tailored to accommodate our setting structure and layout, ensuring that policies are not simply “downloaded” but meaningfully applied to support safe and effective care in our environment.
Through comprehensive training and one-to-one meetings, our team is well-versed in both CQC regulations and wider legal requirements, including employment law and health and safety standards. We have identified five key policies that each team member must master and apply confidently in real-life situations, ranging from assisting clients with daily activities, such as preparing for a shower, to protecting clients' rights, for example, when they embark on a romantic relationship. This hands-on understanding ensures that our staff can uphold the highest standards of care and respond sensitively and appropriately in each unique circumstance.
We are also keen on bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. Regular on-duty mentorship keeps our team aligned with core policies, adapting them to each unique situation.
